There is a kind of emptiness that money cannot fill. Success cannot fill it. Marriage, recognition, possessions, influence, applause and achievement cannot fill it. Only God can. But there is another kind of emptiness that many believers do not immediately understand. It is possible to genuinely love God, pray, worship, study Scripture, fast and pursue His presence, yet still carry a persistent feeling that something is missing. You begin to wonder, Why am I still restless when I love God? Why does it seem as though there should be more to my life?

Sometimes we interpret every such feeling as spiritual decline. Sometimes we think we need another conference, another prayer meeting, another fast or another spiritual experience. Yet there may be another explanation: you may be standing firmly on one leg while neglecting the other.

Jesus gave us a remarkable summary of the entire law and the prophets in Matthew 22:37–40: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There are the two legs: Love God. Love people. Relationship and responsibility. Communion and commission. Presence and purpose. Receiving and releasing. God never designed us to choose between them. We were created to walk on both legs.

1. THE FIRST VOID: THE HUNGER FOR GOD

Deep within the human heart is a hunger that creation cannot completely satisfy because it was designed for the Creator. You can try to fill it with money, relationships, career, titles, houses, travel, possessions or influence. You can fill every hour of your calendar and surround yourself with people, yet when everything becomes quiet, the hunger can return. There is a place in us that belongs to God, and nothing created can permanently occupy the place reserved for the Creator.

God did not merely create us to know about Him. He created us to know Him, walk with Him, hear Him, love Him and increasingly become transformed into His likeness. This is why Jesus identified loving God with all our heart, soul and mind as the first and greatest commandment. Everything begins there. Purpose without God can become ambition. Service without God can become exhausting activism. Achievement without God can produce success without meaning. The first leg, therefore, must remain firmly planted: Love God.

But the first leg is not the whole journey.

2. THE SECOND VOID: THE HUNGER FOR PURPOSE

The second commandment is inseparable from the first: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The God who draws us toward Himself eventually turns our eyes toward people. Genuine love for God must ultimately produce something beyond ourselves. God did not create you merely as someone who needs something from the world; He also created you carrying something the world needs from you.

🌍 Prayer Focus: Africa — Empowered by the Holy Spirit for Kingdom Transformation

Last Thursday, in Acts 1, Jesus told His disciples to WAIT. They obeyed, gathered in unity and continued in prayer. Tomorrow, in Acts 2, we discover what happened when the promised Holy Spirit came upon them. The waiting was over, but their assignment was just beginning!

Imagine being among the 120 when suddenly heaven responded. A sound like a mighty rushing wind filled the house. Tongues as of fire appeared, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Ordinary people began declaring the wonderful works of God in languages they had never learned. The crowd was astonished, Peter stood up with the eleven, and about 3,000 people received the Word and were baptised that day.

What changed? What happened to Peter, who had previously denied Jesus? What kind of empowerment turned frightened disciples into bold witnesses? And what would happen if that same Holy Spirit were given full expression in our lives today?

Tomorrow, we are not gathering merely to remember Pentecost. We are coming to discover what Acts 2 teaches us about the Holy Spirit, His power, His purpose and the kind of community He produces.

### 🙏 SEVEN REASONS WE FAST AND PRAY

Fasting does not earn God's love or force Him to act. We set aside food, as we are able, to devote focused attention to God.

1\. To deepen our intimacy with God.

We set aside distractions to seek His presence and cultivate a closer relationship with Him. (James 4:8)

2\. To sharpen our spiritual sensitivity.

We make room to listen, discern His direction and respond to His leading. (Acts 13:2–3)

3\. To discipline our flesh.

We practise self-control, reminding our appetites that they do not rule us. (1 Corinthians 9:27)

4\. To feed ourselves with God's Word.

We give greater attention to Scripture, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach and transform us. (Matthew 4:4)

5\. To seek fresh empowerment.

We present ourselves to God for renewed boldness, wisdom and strength to serve. (Acts 1:8)

6\. To intercede for others and the nations.

We stand in prayer for families, communities, leaders, the Church and Africa. (1 Timothy 2:1–2)

7\. To align ourselves with God's will and obey.

We seek not merely to receive answers but to become available for God's assignments. (Isaiah 58:6–10)

### 🌍 OUR PRAYER FOR AFRICA — LET THE FIRE PRODUCE FRUIT!

Our continent needs more than religious activity. We need people filled with the Holy Spirit, carrying divine wisdom into homes, communities, businesses, educational institutions, government, media and every sphere of society.

Tomorrow, let us pray for an awakening across Africa: for righteous leadership, peace in conflict-affected nations, justice for the oppressed, economic opportunities, integrity in public institutions, restored families and the multiplication of obedient disciples of Jesus Christ.

May the Holy Spirit raise men and women who will not merely identify Africa's problems but will receive the wisdom, creativity, courage and compassion to become part of God's answer. May the Church demonstrate the generosity, unity and care for one another that we will discover in Acts 2:42–47.

Father, let Africa experience the transforming power of Your Spirit. Let Your Kingdom be evident in our lives and through our service to the nations, in Jesus' name. Amen!
