In this sermon, the message follows a promise that survived generations: Joseph’s declaration that “God will surely visit you.” As Israel prepared to leave Egypt with silver, gold, and clothing, Moses carried something Egypt could not give them—the bones of Joseph. Long before deliverance came, Joseph believed God’s promise so completely that he refused to make Egypt his permanent resting place. He knew he might not live to see the promise fulfilled, but he trusted that a visitation was coming and that when God came down to deliver His people, even his bones would leave Egypt.

Years later, God met Moses at the burning bush and declared, “I have surely visited you.” The promise Joseph died believing was now unfolding before another generation. What looked like wasted years in Moses’ wilderness had actually been preparation for the visitation that would bring an entire nation out of bondage. The message ultimately points forward to another visitation near the land where Joseph’s bones were finally buried. At Jacob’s well, Jesus revealed Himself to the Samaritan woman as the promised Messiah. From Joseph’s coffin, to Moses’ burning bush, to Christ at the well, the message remains the same: God remembers His promises, and when He visits, bondage breaks and what has been waiting can finally come out.
