God And Government: Who Do You Follow?

This sermon examines the biblical relationship between God and government, beginning with Romans 13:1 and the command to submit to governing authorities. Authority ultimately comes from God, but leaders can misuse that authority or turn away from His ways.
The message emphasizes the importance of trusting God's plan while exercising spiritual discernment. As 1 Timothy 4:1 warns, deceiving spirits can lead people away from the faith. Believers must renew their minds, crucify the flesh, and allow the Holy Spirit to help distinguish what is of God.
Scripture also shows the consequences of wicked leadership. Proverbs 28:12 describes the fear that comes when the wicked rise to power, while Proverbs 29:2 says that people rejoice when the righteous thrive. Christians should therefore recognize godly leadership and support what aligns with biblical principles.
Romans 13:2 teaches that rebellion against established authority brings judgment. The sermon explains that when an authority becomes ungodly, believers should not create discord but address concerns appropriately, pray, and, when necessary, leave.
Finally, 1 Peter 2:13–14, Titus 3:1, Hebrews 13:7, and Acts 5:29 establish the balance: submit to authority, obey God above human commands, and represent Christ faithfully wherever God has placed you.
