Why does the Church place so much emphasis on families? In this episode of Iron Rod Insights: Ancient Truths for Modern Life, we study 1 Nephi 7:1–3, when the Lord gives Lehi's family another surprising commandment: Nephi and his brothers must return to Jerusalem and bring Ishmael's family into the wilderness. Why another trip? Because God wasn't simply preparing one family to reach the promised land. He was preparing covenant families—and generations of disciples who would come after them. The Lord's perspective reaches far beyond the challenges directly in front of us. While we see today's journey, He sees future children, families, disciples, and generations. And whether we're married or single, parents or not, we can participate in that work by strengthening our families, ward families, friendships, and communities of faith. God's work brings His children together, helps them come unto Christ, and prepares families to endure eternally.
