Fairness sounds like virtue until you meet a God who keeps paying people you think haven’t earned it. We sit with Jesus’ parable of the workers in the vineyard from the Gospel of Matthew and let it do what it was meant to do: scandalize us. Why do we grumble when someone gets the same mercy, the same welcome, or the same “daily wage” of grace? What does that reveal about envy, hierarchy, and the quiet belief that love is limited?
We connect that uncomfortable question to the Season of Creation and a very grounded act of creation care: restoring neglected garden boxes at Harveys Fellowship so our neighbors can grow and share fresh food. From Jeremiah’s call to plant gardens in exile to Jonah’s anger at God’s compassion, we trace a consistent thread through Scripture: God’s generosity is not fragile, and God’s invitation keeps coming back around.
We lean into Pentecost practices of consenting to the Holy Spirit, receiving a new imagination, and returning to communion as a weekly reminder that there is enough at the table for everyone. We also share everyday stories about becoming a thermostat instead of a thermometer, carrying peace into tense spaces rather than matching the world’s anger.
