This librarian’s Halloween twist—giving books instead of candy—is sparking a reading revolution. At Chicora School, every student gets a book thanks to “Book-o-ween,” a crowdfunding campaign fueled by community love. Why? Because books at home build language, comprehension, and self-representation. In a Title I school where resources are tight, this initiative is a lifeline—and it’s already igniting a lifelong love of stories in kids who crave them.
