In this episode of Scarred for Life, we’re joined by legendary comic book writer Garth Ennis, creator of The Boys and one of the most influential writers to come out of 2000 AD.

Garth reveals the three things that genuinely scarred him for life: God, Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, and Ridley Scott’s Alien. From childhood fears of Hell to the horrifying idea of evil growing inside ordinary people, and the lasting nightmare of the xenomorph, Garth explains why some horror doesn’t simply scare you — it scars you for life ( He understood the assignment!)

Along the way, we dive deep into his extraordinary career in comics, including Judge Dredd, 2000 AD, and The Boys. His friendship with Alan Moore the creator of Watchmen and From Hell. Garth talks about growing up in Belfast during The Troubles, how living around real-world violence influenced his writing, and his fascination with the way people adapt to violence rather than confronting it.

We also get into The Boys, Billy Butcher, Garth's dislike of the regular superhero trope, corruption, corporate control, politics, and why the world of Judge Dredd can sometimes feel uncomfortably close to reality.
