Freedom Week Three: Walking in the Spirit and Restoring Others

What does freedom in Christ look like in everyday life? In Week Three of Freedom, Pastor Joey and the GROW Group Podcast crew explore Galatians 5–6, where Paul connects freedom with love, life in the Spirit and responsibility toward others. The conversation challenges listeners to recognize the freedom Jesus has given and begin living in it.

Through stories about parenting, a dog’s invisible fence and learning to dance, the team explores how old habits and religious expectations can keep believers living as though they are still bound. Freedom brings the ability to resist sin and pursue intimacy with God. Scripture and prayer become opportunities to know Him more deeply, with meditation allowing His Word to shape our thoughts and choices.

The discussion turns to the fruit of the Spirit and the daily tension between feeding the flesh and abiding in Christ. Spiritual growth takes perseverance, and what we sow matters. The crew encourages listeners to keep pursuing Jesus even when change feels slow and to trust Him when understanding follows obedience.

Galatians 6 brings the conversation into community: how do we respond when someone falls into sin? The team considers gentle restoration, accountability, shared burdens and the danger of confusing personal preferences with God’s commands. The episode closes by centering our confidence on the cross, followed by honest prayer requests about anxiety, family and the need for wisdom.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Live in the freedom Christ gives. Recognize where sin or religious rule keeping still shapes your choices. Use your freedom to pursue God’s purpose and love others.

    • Make intimacy with Jesus your daily focus. Spend time in Scripture and prayer with the aim of knowing Him. Let His Word sink in and shape your life beyond the moment you read it.

    • Keep sowing to the Spirit. Growth rarely appears overnight. Stay faithful in surrender and obedience, remembering that the habits you feed influence the fruit your life produces.

    • Restore others with humility and gentleness. Seek healing when confronting sin, watch your own vulnerability and help carry heavy burdens. Repentance matters, and forgiveness does not erase every consequence.

    • Examine your preferences and your source of confidence. Be careful about treating personal rules as God’s commands. Let the cross reshape how you see yourself, relate to others and give Christ the credit.

Freedom Week Two: Grace, Identity, and Life as God’s Children

If salvation is a gift, where does effort fit into the Christian life? In Week Two of Freedom, the GROW Cast crew explores Galatians 3–4 and the difference between trying to earn God’s acceptance and learning to live as someone He has already welcomed. The crew unpacks grace, growth and the security of belonging to Christ.

The conversation centers on adoption: what does it mean to become a child of God, with a new identity and an inheritance received through faith? The team explores why our confidence rests in the Father’s faithfulness and Christ’s finished work. Joey shares his struggle to separate salvation from the pressure to perform.

But security is not an invitation to coast. The crew tackles the tension between earning and effort, explaining why prayer, Scripture and daily surrender matter without becoming another checklist for acceptance. They distinguish being declared righteous from the ongoing process of becoming more like Jesus, and challenge a version of discipleship that stops at conversion.

An X-ray offers a memorable picture of the law: it exposes what is broken but cannot heal it. From there, the discussion follows God’s promise to Abraham and Paul’s contrast between slavery and freedom. The episode invites listeners to grow from the identity Christ gives.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Let grace settle the question of belonging. You cannot earn salvation or make Christ’s work more complete. Ground your confidence in what God has done, rather than measuring His acceptance by your latest success or failure.

    • Put effort into growth, not earning approval. Being secure in Christ does not make spiritual disciplines optional. Pursue prayer, Scripture and surrender as ways to deepen a relationship you have received, not to purchase one.

    • Live from your identity as God’s child. Adoption changes how you approach the Father. Bring Him your needs, trust His care and learn to live the kingdom life now instead of simply waiting for heaven.

    • Let the law point you toward Christ. Like an X-ray, it reveals the problem without providing the cure. When it exposes sin, respond with faith and dependence rather than another attempt to save yourself through performance.

    • Read the passage within the bigger story. Try reading an entire biblical letter before studying smaller sections. Connecting Abraham, God’s promise and the discussion of freedom helps you follow Paul’s argument and apply it faithfully.

Freedom Week One: Grace, Faith, and Life in Christ

What does it mean to live free in Christ—and why do we so often turn faith into a checklist? The GROW Cast crew launches Freedom, a 12-week journey through Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians, with an honest, practical conversation about Galatians 1–2.

Pastor Joey and the team explore Paul’s urgent reminder that salvation comes through Jesus alone. Religious routines, good intentions and rule keeping cannot accomplish what Christ has already done. Yet receiving grace is only the beginning of learning to walk with Him. The crew discusses why attending church cannot replace a daily relationship with Jesus, how abiding produces spiritual fruit, and why the gospel offers freedom for life today as well as hope for eternity.

Through laughter, personal stories and challenging questions, the discussion moves from legalism and competing beliefs to Paul’s confrontation with Peter over inconsistent behavior. Whose approval shapes our choices? Are we trusting Christ or our own performance? And what changes when we take seriously Paul’s declaration, “I have been crucified with Christ”?

The episode closes with reflections on surrender, spiritual leadership and listening for God’s direction. A personal story of unexpected timing brings the conversation home: walking with God means making space to recognize His work and respond.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Stop trying to earn what Christ freely gives. Salvation rests on faith in Jesus, not your church attendance, moral record or ability to follow religious rules. Good works are the fruit of faith, never its purchase price.

    • Build a daily relationship, not just a Sunday routine. Worship and fellowship support your walk with God, but they cannot replace personally abiding in Christ through Scripture, prayer and accountability.

    • Watch whose approval you seek. The discussion of Paul and Peter challenges us to recognize when social pressure changes our behavior. Let the gospel shape how you treat people, regardless of who is watching.

    • Surrender the title deed to your life. Being crucified with Christ means yielding your rights, priorities and plans to Him. Ask where you are still holding control instead of trusting His leadership.

    • Give God room to speak. Slow down, put away distractions and include listening in your prayer life. Seek His direction through His Word and the Holy Spirit, and be willing to act on what He shows you.
