What happens when a psychologist who helps performers manage anxiety decides to step onto the stage herself?

In this episode of Healthy Brain Happy Body, Saul talks with psychologist and cabaret singer Pamela Enders, PhD, about performance, creativity, vulnerability, and discovering new creative possibilities later in life.

Pamela once dreamed of becoming a Broadway performer but instead pursued a career in psychology. Known for working with performers, at age 50 she returned to singing, eventually performing cabaret in the Boston area.

Pamela and Saul discuss the physiology of performance anxiety, psychological preparation and rehearsal, visualization and cue words, and how performers can learn from the occasions when things don't go as planned. They also explore the creative process itself: how lived experience changes artistic expression, the intimate relationship between performer and audience, and the ways creativity can allow us to discover and express different parts of ourselves.
