Taylor Girard grew up right here in Michigan dreaming of playing hockey, and now, she’s coming home as a professional athlete and one of the first players to ever suit up for PWHL Detroit.
In this inspiring conversation, Taylor takes us back to where her love of hockey began, what it took to turn that passion into a professional career, and what it’s really like to be a woman competing at the highest level of her sport.
We talk about the incredible momentum behind women’s professional sports, the importance of seeing women athletes finally receive the spotlight and respect they deserve, and what it means to be part of this historic moment. Taylor also shares what went through her mind when she found out she would get to return to Michigan, represent her home state, and help build the very first PWHL Detroit team from the ground up.
Most importantly, Taylor opens up about the lessons hockey has taught her about resilience, believing in yourself, and continuing to pursue something even when the path isn't always clear.
Her story is a reminder that sometimes the dreams we nurture for years can bring us full circle, and that by continuing to water your own garden, you might just find yourself helping someone else grow theirs, too.
