  • Freaks of Nature: Adaptive or Abhorrent?
    2025/07/29

Welcome to the 19th episode of Freaky Fauna Files, where we’re spotlighting nature’s weirdos and biological curveballs! These freaky creatures challenge everything we think we know about how to survive.

First up is the glass frog! This amphibian, with see-through skin, lets you watch its heart beat in real time. We then swing over to South America to meet the marmoset, a tiny monkey that’s often a natural chimera (no not the fire breathing kind).

Next, we check out the African spiny mouse, a rodent with superpowers. This little mammal can shed its skin and regrow it, cartilage and all. Finally, we meet Frank and Louie, the two-faced Janus cat who lived a shockingly long and lovable life.

Prepare to walk the runways in the next episode with us as we take a look at the jaw-dropping fashionista’s of the wild.

Thanks for listening, and stay freaky!

  • Don't Lick That! It's Poisonous!
    2025/06/24

Welcome to the 18th episode of Freaky Fauna Files, where we’re diving headfirst into the dangerous world of poisonous creatures and their lethal line of defense!

In this episode, we take a closer look at three animals that don’t just defend themselves, they make predators think twice before even trying.

First up is the notorious cane toad, an invasive amphibian armed with a creamy white toxin. We’ll explore how this seemingly clumsy hopper has become one of the most ecologically disruptive (and deadly) creatures in Australia and why its poison is so effective.

Next, we’ll swim over to the oceans to meet the adorable but deadly pufferfish. With its iconic balloon-like inflation and powerful tetrodotoxin (TTX), this fish is a masterclass in deceptive danger. You’ll learn how it defends itself, why it’s one of the most poisonous vertebrates on Earth, and why chefs need a license just to serve it.

Finally, slither into the shadows with us as we uncover the secrets of the Asian tiger keelback snake, a rare case of a poisonous and venomous snake. This freaky fauna not only produces venom, but also sequesters toxins from its prey and stores them in glands for later use. Yes, this snake steals its poison.

Join us as we explore the wicked world of toxic animals, uncovering how poison as a defense isn’t just effective, it’s downright freaky.

Next time, we will be exploring the freakiest freaks of nature. We're talking translucent skin, detachable limbs, and more! See you next time :)

Thanks for listening and stay Freaky! 🐸🐡🐍

p.s. Thank you all for your patience, we have been waiting for our new Mics! If you have any feedback about sound quality, feel free to let us know what you think :)

  • Asia Unleashed: Snout Beasts, Tricksters, and Bug Butchers
    2025/04/22

In this episode of Freaky Fauna Files, we explore four fascinating animals from across Asia, each with their own strange adaptations and stories.

We start with the Japanese spider crab, the largest arthropod in the world, known for its massive leg span and deep-sea lifestyle. Then we take a look at the tanuki, or Japanese raccoon dog—a real animal with a long history in folklore as a shapeshifter and trickster.

Next, we head to the grasslands of Central Asia to meet the saiga antelope, an odd-looking ungulate with a flexible, oversized nose that helps it survive in dusty, harsh environments. Finally, we dig into the world of the assassin bug, a small insect with surprisingly brutal hunting tactics and a name it definitely earns.

From legends to lethal adaptations, this episode highlights the diversity and strangeness of Asia’s animal life.

Thanks for listening, and stay freaky!
