  • Why Should Freedom Lead to Holiness?
    2026/10/16

“No condemnation” might be the most comforting line in the Bible, but Romans 8 refuses to let it stay sentimental. We walk through Romans 8:1–4 with Dr. Timothy Mann and ask what that promise actually rests on and what it produces in real life. The message starts with a simple picture from everyday culture: people love learning their family history, yet Scripture says believers are joined to a far greater family by union with Jesus Christ. That spiritual connection changes our standing with God and our outlook on guilt, shame, and fear.

We also slow down for a quick, practical look at a common Bible translation question in Romans 8:1. Why do some Bibles include the phrase about walking according to the Spirit while others footnote it? Dr. Mann explains the manuscript issue clearly and shows why the meaning of the passage remains steady: those who are truly in Christ are marked by the Spirit, because only the Holy Spirit can bring life to someone who is spiritually dead. Salvation is not self-rescue; it is new birth.

From there we land on the core of the gospel: substitutionary atonement. What the law could not do, God did by sending His Son. Jesus fulfills the law, condemns sin in the flesh, and breaks sin’s penalty and power for everyone who turns and trusts Him. And that freedom has a direction: sanctification. We talk candidly about fruit of the Spirit versus religious hype, why holiness matters more than momentary emotion, and how God’s sovereignty meets our daily responsibility to walk faithfully Monday through Saturday.

  • Why Do You Still Feel Condemned?
    2026/10/15

Shame has a way of sticking, especially when you read Romans 7 and recognize your own patterns: the same temptations, the same regrets, the same exhausting sense of defeat. We go straight into that tension and then step into Romans 8:1–4, where Paul opens with a declaration that is meant to change how a Christian breathes: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

We walk carefully through what that promise does and does not mean. Dr. Timothy Mann explains why “condemnation” points beyond a guilty verdict to the penalty that verdict demands, and why the gospel is more than God giving us a second chance. This assurance is anchored in Jesus Christ’s finished work, his perfect sacrifice on the cross, and God’s act of justification by grace through faith. If you’re searching for Christian assurance, freedom from guilt, and clarity on salvation, Romans 8 is holy ground.

We also tackle a crucial distinction that protects both comfort and holiness: no condemnation is not the same as no discipline, and it does not erase accountability. God still disciplines those he loves, and what we sow we reap, yet none of that becomes divine sentencing for the believer. The phrase “in Christ Jesus” becomes the centerpiece as we explore union with Christ and why outward identification is not the same as truly belonging to him.

  • Why Do You Do What You Hate?
    2026/10/14

That moment when you surprise yourself, not with temptation from “out there,” but with resistance from “in here,” can feel confusing, discouraging, and deeply personal. Romans 7 puts that experience into words: we delight in God’s law, we want what is right, and yet we still wrestle with sin that won’t quit. We open the text and sit with Paul’s blunt honesty, including his cry, “O wretched man that I am,” and the hope that follows through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We also talk about why we teach the Bible verse by verse. Expository preaching keeps us anchored in context, not cherry-picked lines that “prove” what we already want to say. That matters in Romans 7, where the details shape everything: the law is holy and spiritual, grace does not cancel the law, and the law was never a ladder to salvation in the first place. The issue isn’t that God’s commands are flawed; it’s that we are still earthbound, still battling indwelling sin while we grow in sanctification.

One of the most challenging takeaways is also one of the most freeing: the closer we get to God, the more clearly we see our sin. That increased sensitivity is not hypocrisy, and it is not proof you are failing as a Christian. It can be evidence of spiritual maturity, a tender conscience, and a growing love for righteousness. We also address common confusion about “two natures,” and why the Christian is one redeemed person still fighting remaining corruption in the flesh.

If you’ve ever asked, “Why do I do what I hate?” you’ll find clarity here, along with a path toward humility, repentance, and deeper gratitude for grace.
