Two Fort Wayne police officers are on restrictive duty after viral video shows them allegedly taunting a suspect who’d already surrendered, sparking outrage and calls for accountability. The arrest followed a high-speed chase that ended with the suspect fleeing on foot — captured by bystander La Shay’s phone. Officers’ conduct, including threatening La Shay to “disappear,” has fueled family anger, especially as the suspect’s brother insists his brother made a mistake but officers crossed the line. Chief P.J. Smith launched an internal probe, removed the officers from patrol, and promised to release dashcam and bodycam footage — though disciplinary action may take months due to state regulations. He stressed the need to uphold public trust while affirming his faith in the department’s integrity.
