This is not a formal history lesson, nor a touristic introduction to Iran. It is a personal and human attempt to tell intimate, engaging stories from a culture that carries thousands of years of memory, art, grief, faith, humor, and life.

Through these letters to Cindy, each episode becomes a bridge between Iran and the English-speaking listener — a bridge made of voice, music, storytelling, and memory.

    In this episode, written as a personal letter to Cindy, we enter one of the deepest stories in Iranian culture: the story of Karbala, Imam Hussein, Ashura, and the meaning of martyrdom.

    This is not only a religious story. It is a journey into how Iranians understand suffering, dignity, resistance, generosity, and memory. Through the story of Hussein’s refusal to surrender to injustice, the episode explores why Karbala has remained alive for more than thirteen centuries in poetry, music, painting, mourning rituals, and everyday acts of kindness.

    The episode also explains the tradition of nazri — the free food shared during Muharram — and why dishes like gheimeh in Tehran are not simply meals, but part of a living cultural memory.

    A personal introduction to Karbala for listeners unfamiliar with Iranian history, told through voice, music, art, and a letter to a friend.
