This episode, we tag in with steel chairs of truth — breaking down the ties between wrestling, hip-hop, and Chicago’s unshakable stance in a world full of frontin’ and forgetfulness. Too many folks out here not reppin’ the Go ILL brand right, or worse, ignoring the culture that birthed ‘em. But Fly Nerd Group is the Vanguard, and we stand ten toes down. No gimmicks. No co-signs. Just raw thought, ring talk, and real city pride. Tune in — we got smoke for the nonsense.

We don’t tap out; so tap in.

In this episode, we build on a simple truth: we need new myths. From yet another Ghostbusters reboot in NYC to the endless parade of space idiots fighting aliens, Hollywood keeps hitting copy-paste on the same templates. We dig into the power and necessity of original storytelling — not just remixed nostalgia, but fresh worlds, new heroes, and bold perspectives rooted in our creativity. Time to break the loop and write what’s never been written.

In Episode 8, the Fly Nerds pull up on two major releases: Final Destination: Bloodlines and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. We dig into why Bloodlines feels like another recycled jump scare in the graveyard of horror reboots, and contrast it with the high-octane precision of Dead Reckoning, which might just be the crown jewel of the Mission franchise. From lazy frights to cinematic flight, we talk stakes, stunts, and why not all legacies are created equal.

  • WFNG REEL TALK: THUNDERBOLTS*
    2025/05/05

This weekend we saw Marvel’s latest drop, Thunderbolts—a film that flips the script on the superhero genre. Directed by Jake Schreier, this ensemble piece brings together a crew of antiheroes: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). They’re coerced into a mission by the manipulative Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), leading to unexpected alliances and confrontations.

The plot thickens with the introduction of Bob (Lewis Pullman), a seemingly unassuming character who transforms into the Sentry—a being of immense power and a dark alter ego known as the Void. The film doesn’t shy away from exploring heavy themes like trauma, redemption, and the complexities of heroism. It’s a narrative that challenges the traditional black-and-white morality of the MCU, offering a more nuanced take on what it means to be a hero.

Critics are vibing with it too, giving it an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences are showing love with a 94% score. The box office numbers are solid, pulling in $162 million globally on opening weekend.

So, if you’re into stories that blend action with introspection, Thunderbolts is a must-watch. Let’s chop it up—what did y’all think of the film’s take on redemption and the gray areas of heroism?

In this episode of Reel Talk, the Fly Nerd Group dives deep into Ryan Coogler’s latest cinematic masterpiece, Sinners. Set in 1932 Mississippi, the film stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return home to open a juke joint, only to confront a supernatural evil that challenges their very existence.

We explore how Coogler blends horror, history, and Black spirituality, using vampires as metaphors for systemic oppression and cultural erasure. The film’s rich tapestry includes themes of music as a conduit for ancestral connection, critiques of organized religion, and the resilience found in African heritage.

Join us as we unpack the film’s layered narrative, its cultural significance, and how Sinners redefines the vampire genre through a Black lens. It’s a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Spring lagged like a slow download, but it’s finally booted up — and Chicago’s running hot.

This weekend, Fly Nerd Group hit the city on a vinyl hunt for Record Store Day, spinning through dusty crates and sonic treasures. Then we dipped over to C2E2, where comics, anime dreams, cosplay flexes, and toy hustles painted the scene crazy.

We vibed with Peter Weller as he broke down the soul and sorrow of ROBOCOP, and stood in the presence of comic book royalty, the legendary Denys Cowan.
