Alex Steen’s bid for an extra NCAA eligibility year hits a major roadblock as a Florida judge denies his emergency injunction request, leaving his hopes for the 2026-27 season on hold while his broader lawsuit continues. Steen, who played four straight seasons without redshirting, argues the NCAA’s new five-season rule unfairly excludes him — but the court found no irreparable harm or public interest justification, citing potential financial compensation and roster disruptions. The ruling doesn’t end his case — just delays it — with a full hearing still ahead to determine whether the NCAA’s eligibility rules are truly unfair.

Florida State’s 2026-27 ACC schedule is heating up the basketball fanbase, with bold predictions swirling: a potential upset in Durham against Duke, a four-and-oh start against Syracuse, Cal, Stanford, and UNC, and February as the make-or-break month against top-tier teams like NC State, Miami, Clemson, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. If they can channel last year’s February magic, this squad could rewrite their season’s narrative.

Florida State men’s basketball is retooling for the 2026-27 season with major coaching staff upgrades: Justin Lindner, a former player and player development guru, is promoted to assistant coach, while Sam Logwood, a seasoned NBA video and scouting veteran who previously worked with Coach Loucks in Sacramento, joins as director of video and scouting. The move comes as Chris Kent departs to become head coach of the Austin Spurs, leaving behind a solid 18-15 record last season. With Lindner’s deep roots in the program and Logwood’s professional-level expertise, Coach Loucks is assembling a sharper, more strategic staff — setting the stage for a strong non-conference opener against Florida A&M on November 2.

Chris Kent, Florida State’s key player development guru who helped turn around the program with 18 wins last season and boosted stars like Robert McCray V and LaJae Jones, is leaving Tallahassee for the G League — officially named head coach of the Austin Spurs. With a proven track record in the NBA’s developmental league, including stints with Portland, Chicago, and Fort Wayne, Kent returns to the G League where he’ll lead a team that made the playoffs last year as the top defensive squad. His exit marks another coaching shake-up as FSU prepares for the new season.
