A podcast about marine ecologies and labouring at sea hosted by Ian M. Cook and Alin Kadfak. Join us as we cast off into a sea of trash fish, worker precarity, racism, and labour campaigns to name but a few of the topics we’ll find stranded, floating, and calling out to have a podcast made about them. https://www.justseafood.org/podcastCC BY-NC-SA 4.0 DEED. • Aquaculture vs Fisheries? with Daniel Pauly
    2026/09/29

Welcome to Fishy Work, a podcast on ecologies, labour and fish governance. This is Season 2: Aquaculture vs Capture Fisheries. Since 2022 aquaculture, that’s the breeding and harvesting of fish along with other aquatic organisms has overtaken Capture Fisheries, i.e. fishing in the wild. In this season Alin Kadfak and I meet a smorgasbord of fishy guests who analyse the new normal. In this episode we speak Daniel Pauly, one of the world's most renowned and influential marine biologists and fisheries scientists. He serves as a Professor and the Principal Investigator of the Sea Around Us initiative at the University of British Columbia. By the end of our conversation with Daniel you will have a deeper understanding of the dependences between capture fisheries and aquaculture.
