概要

Field of Vision with Nikki D is a podcast about living with glaucoma and navigating a new glaucoma diagnosis with clarity, calm, and real conversation.

If you’ve been newly diagnosed with glaucoma, worried about eye pressure (IOP), or trying to understand visual field tests, OCT scans, and optic nerve health, this podcast was created for you.

Host Nikki D has lived with glaucoma for more than 25 years and previously worked as a medical and surgical technologist in an eye surgery center, giving her both personal and clinical perspective on glaucoma care. Each episode explores the real experience of managing glaucoma — from understanding glaucoma testing and treatment options to handling the anxiety that can come between appointments.

Field of Vision is not about miracle cures or sensational claims. It’s a calm space for honest conversations about open-angle glaucoma, eye pressure readings, glaucoma tests, treatment decisions, and the emotional reality of living with a chronic eye condition.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed with glaucoma, managing the condition long-term, or supporting someone who is, this podcast helps you understand the journey and feel less alone.

  • Visual Crowding in Glaucoma: Why Everything Starts to Look Cluttered
    2026/04/08

Have you ever felt like everything in front of you suddenly looks cluttered or overwhelming—even though you can technically still see it? This experience is known as visual crowding, and it’s something many people living with glaucoma and vision loss experience.

In this episode of Field of Vision with Nikki D, we explore what visual crowding is, why it happens in the brain, and why it can become more noticeable for people with glaucoma and peripheral vision loss. Even when objects are visible, the brain can struggle to separate them when they are surrounded by visual clutter. This can make everyday activities like reading, navigating busy spaces, or recognizing faces more challenging.

Nikki shares both personal insight as someone living with glaucoma and clinical perspective from her experience working as a glaucoma surgery technician. Together, we break down the science behind visual crowding in a way that is easy to understand and discuss practical strategies that may help reduce visual overwhelm.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • What visual crowding is and how it affects vision • Why glaucoma can make crowded environments harder to process • Signs that visual crowding may be affecting daily life • Practical strategies to help reduce visual confusion • How lighting, contrast, and visual scanning techniques can help

If you are living with glaucoma, low vision, or vision changes, this episode will help you better understand what may be happening and how to navigate everyday environments with more confidence.

  • Glaucoma Eye Drop Side Effects: What to Expect and How to Manage Them
    2026/03/18

Glaucoma eye drop side effects are something many patients experience, but they’re not always talked about openly. If you’ve been prescribed glaucoma medications to lower eye pressure (IOP), you may notice symptoms like redness, burning, dryness, or irritation.

In this episode of Field of Vision with Nikki D, we discuss the different types of glaucoma eye drops, why doctors prescribe them, and the common side effects patients may experience when starting treatment.

Nikki shares insight from living with glaucoma for more than 25 years and from her experience working as a medical and surgical technologist in an eye surgery center. The episode explains how glaucoma medications help lower intraocular pressure and protect the optic nerve while also addressing some of the challenges patients may face with drop-related side effects.

You’ll learn about common glaucoma medications including:

    • Prostaglandin analogs such as Xalatan (latanoprost), Lumigan (bimatoprost), and Travatan Z (travoprost) • Beta blockers such as Timolol (Timoptic) • Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as Trusopt (dorzolamide) and Azopt (brinzolamide) • Alpha agonists such as Alphagan P (brimonidine) • Combination drops such as Cosopt, Combigan, and Simbrinza

We also discuss practical ways patients may reduce irritation and discomfort, including simple techniques that help limit medication drainage and improve drop tolerance.

An important reminder in glaucoma care is that treatment is highly individualized. If side effects occur, doctors can often adjust medications or try different drops to help find the best balance between pressure control and comfort.
