On Lyngvi, an island in Lake Ámsvartnir, Fenrir faces the final test devised by the gods of Norse myth. Two mighty fetters have already failed. Their last answer is Gleipnir: a soft-looking ribbon made from six impossible ingredients.
Fenrir suspects that this slight band carries a danger greater than its appearance. He agrees to the test only if a god places a hand in his mouth as a pledge. Týr, the one god named as brave enough to feed the growing wolf, accepts the demand—and loses his right hand when Gleipnir holds.
Following Gylfaginning chapters 34 and 51, this episode traces the choices that lead from prophecy and fear to the binding on Lyngvi, then forward to the foretold catastrophe of Ragnarök. It also distinguishes Snorri’s extended prose sequence from related poetic references to Týr, Fenrir, Odin, and Víðarr.
