In this episode of the Tranzcendent Outlook Podcast, I sit down with Bridgeport City Councilwoman and Operations Director of Building One Community, Keyla Medina, for a powerful conversation about family, resilience, service, and finding your purpose.Keyla takes us back to her childhood growing up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and opens up about the challenges that shaped her early life—including losing her father at an early age and frequently moving from place to place. She even shares the story of spending time in Puerto Rico, where she had to sharpen her Spanish before eventually returning home to Bridgeport. We talk about the life-changing impact becoming a mother had on Keyla and how the birth of her first daughter changed the way she viewed life and ultimately helped strengthen her relationship with her brother.Keyla also takes us through the journey that led her into nonprofit and community work, including her experiences with Faith Acts for Education, Make the Road, the Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County, Latino Scholarship Fund, and Building One Community. Along the way, she explains what inspired her to dedicate so much of her life to serving others and advocating for her community.Eventually, Keyla felt it was time to take that commitment a step further by getting involved in local politics. She shares what motivated her to run for office, what it meant to be elected to the Bridgeport City Council, and what it's really like balancing the responsibilities of being a City Councilwoman with her 9-to-5 career. But perhaps just as important, Keyla talks about maintaining balance at home. She opens up about her relationship with her husband, who also serves as a Board of Education member, and how the two support one another while making sure public service doesn't come at the expense of their relationship. And at the heart of it all is family. Keyla shares how much she values spending time with her daughters and the joy of becoming a grandmother. This is a conversation about loss, growth, motherhood, service, leadership, love, and what it means to remain grounded in family while dedicating yourself to your community. If you're from Bridgeport—or simply interested in hearing the story behind someone who has dedicated her life to making a difference—this is an episode you don't want to miss.Welcome to another episode of the Tranzcendent Outlook Podcast. If you enjoyed this conversation, LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE, and SHARE the episode with someone who needs to hear Keyla's story.Follow Eddie Tranzcendent:Website - https://tranzcendentoutlook.com/Facebook Profile: https://www.facebook.com/eddie.t.martinez/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/EddieTranzcendent/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eddie_tranzcendent/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@eddie_tranzcendentLinked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eddie-tranzcendent-martinez-1839b0170/X: @Eddie_TranzConnect with Keyla Medina:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61584604050293Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/da_mama_bear_/Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/keyla-d-medina/Building One Community:Website: https://b1c.org/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/building1communityInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/building1community/Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/company/building-one-community/City of Bridgeport:Website: https://www.bridgeportct.gov/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cityofbridgeportctInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/cityofbridgeportct/Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County:Website: https://prpfcct.org/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPRPFCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/prpfcct/Latino Scholarship Fund:Website: https://www.latinoscholarshipfund.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latinoscholarshipfundInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/latinoscholarshipfundinc/
