    1. Learn There Is a Reason for the Thorns

For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

    Romans 8:22 (NASB 95)

Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.

    Hebrews 12:9–10 (NASB 95)

Though he slay me, I will hope in him;”

    Job 13:15 (ESV)

    2. Listen for the Lord in the Thorns

saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

    Luke 22:42 (NASB 95)

    3. Look for the Blessing in the Thorns

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

    2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (CSB)

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    Psalm 23:4 (NASB 95)

    1. Hold on to faith amid loss.

    2. Allow Jesus to meet you in your grief.

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

    1 Thessalonians 4:13 (CSB)

    3. Resurrection hope overpowers the grave.

But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

    Acts 2:24 (NASB 95)

    I. The Return of the King

II. The Reward of the Righteous

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

    John 14:6 (ESV)

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

    Acts 4:12 (ESV)

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

    1 Timothy 2:5 (ESV)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

    Ephesians 2:8–10 (ESV)

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

    James 2:17 (ESV)

III. The Rejection of the Rebellious

and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

    Revelation 20:10 (ESV)

And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

    Revelation 20:15 (ESV)

The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’

    Luke 16:22–24 (ESV)

    1. Realize God is the source of everything

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

    James 1:17 (ESV)

    2. Faithful stewardship leads to God’s blessings

    3. Fear and inaction lead to loss

    4. Accountability is inevitable

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

    2 Corinthians 5:10 (ESV)

‘For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ How you use your resources reveals your heart toward Christ. When He returns, He will ask: ‘What did you do with what I gave you?’

    Matthew 6:21 (NASB95)

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, 12 then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

    Deuteronomy 6:4-12

    1. Tend to Your Own Heart

    2. Teach Diligently and Consistently

    3. Tell the Story of God’s Faithfulness

10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

    Judges 2:10

God gave you a precious family to play a crucial role in his strategy for the redemption of the world.

    1. Be Faithful today, Not Someday.

We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.

    John 9:4 (NASB95)

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

    John 1:11 (NASB95)

    2. You can’t borrow spiritual readiness.

So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.

    Romans 14:12 (NASB95)

while it is said, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME.”

    Hebrews 3:15 (NASB95)

    3. When the door closes, it will close suddenly and swiftly.

for He says, “AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU, AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU.” Behold, now is “THE ACCEPTABLE TIME,” behold, now is “THE DAY OF SALVATION”—

    2 Corinthians 6:2 (NASB95)

    I. Live confidently

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

    Isaiah 40:8 (NASB95)

For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

    1 Peter 1:24–25 (NASB95)

    II. Live Obediently

    He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

    Acts 1:7 (NASB95)

For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

    1 Thessalonians 5:2 (NASB95)

“Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

    Revelation 16:15 (NLT)

You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.

    James 5:8 (NIV84)

Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

    1 John 3:3 (NIV84)

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

    Acts 1:8 (NASB95)

    III. Live Ready

Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

    2 Peter 3:11–12 (NASB95)

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

    Titus 2:11–13 (NIV84)

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. share a meal together as friends.” Romans 13:11 (NASB): “For now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.” His words are more certain than the cosmos, the signs will come, the hour is unknown, and the call is clear: be ready.
