    2024/10/25

Hey everyone! We’re back with an exciting new episode of “Ey Up Ellis!” and in this episode we dive into the world of analogue photography as we spend some time in the darkroom at The Art House in Wakefield.

Join us as we explore the magic of film photography, the process of making prints in the darkroom, and our own adventures in alternative printing techniques at home.

Spending time in the darkroom was so much fun. The tactile process of creating something by hand, the anticipation of seeing your print develop, and the endless possibilities for experimentation make the darkroom a truly magical place. We’re grateful to Emily and The Art House for welcoming us into their world and can’t wait to continue exploring these techniques in our own creative journeys.

So, whether you’re a seasoned film photographer or just curious about the process, this episode of “Ey Up Ellis!” has something for everyone. We hope this episode inspires you to dive into the world of analogue and create something beautiful.

    Hope you like it!

  • EP03 - Music and Dominoes: Hope and Social Special!
    2024/08/22

Hey everyone! We’re back with an exciting new episode of “Ey Up Ellis!” and this one is all about one of our favourite bands Hope and Social! I caught up with the band at their Domino Rally all day festival to find out more about what makes them so unique.

My mum and dad talk about them all the time and I love their music but I've not had a chance to see them play live before. If you caught our last episode you'll have heard me and dad discussing our dream music festival lineups and my dad picked Hope and Social for his stage so I was really excited to find out what all the fuss was about!

    Who are Hope and Social?

Hope and Social are a wonderful band who are well-known for putting on incredible live shows and events, heavily involving people in their music and generally having a brilliant time.

They've always approached things a little differently. In their previous incarnation as Four Day Hombre, they created the first ever fan funded, fan owned record label - Alamo Music, and they let people pay what they want for their music.

Since evolving into Hope and Social, the band have become known for putting their fans at the center of everything they do - whether that be turning their studio into a French Bistro, recording a live track using 70 tuned wine bottles or putting on a funbus to the seaside, the band have always strived to make sure everyone has a great time.

Oh and they all wear blue jackets! Why?… listen to the episode to find out!

    What's the Domino Rally?

13 years after putting on the Sleep Sound Garden Party, Hope and Social's Domino Rally was a summertime extravaganza of music, making, food, art, drink and fun at the wonderful Old Woollen at Sunnybank Mills in Leeds. Oh and dominoes. Lots and LOTS of dominoes! (Including human ones!)

I had an amazing time and loved seeing the band play their headline set at the end. Listen to the episode to hear more about all the fun things we got up to and hear my interview with the band. You can even find out why Rich was soaking wet!

    Hope you like it!

  • EP01 - Discovering the Mysteries of Ancient Egypt
    2024/06/25

Welcome to the latest episode of "Ey Up Ellis!" where we dive into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. This week, Ellis and his dad explore the wonders of this ancient civilisation through interviews, museum visits, and listener questions.

We start with a special interview featuring Ellis' grandad, who has visited Egypt and shared his experiences. He recounted his journey to the majestic pyramids, and his very memorable camel ride!

Ellis was inspired to become an Egyptologist after meeting Mr. Egypt, a comedian Egyptologist who visited his school. Mr. Egypt shared fascinating facts about ancient Egypt and brought rare artefacts for the kids to hold, sparking Ellis's curiosity even more.

To learn more about Ancient Egypt, we visited Leeds City Museum and its Ancient Worlds gallery. One of the highlights was seeing a 3000-year-old mummy named Nesyamun, a significant piece of history right here in Leeds!

The museum provides a fascinating insight into ancient Egyptian culture, including elaborate burial practices and beautifully decorated coffins.

We wrapped up the episode by answering questions some of our listeners sent in about Ancient Egypt. Ellis did a great job addressing these curious queries, providing interesting and informative answers. You'll have to listen to hear some surprising revelations and fun facts!

Thank you for joining us on this journey through Ancient Egypt! We had a fantastic time learning and sharing our discoveries!
