• The joys and struggles of being a young conductor
    2023/07/31

    Welcome to Exulansis!

Today, I was delighted to welcome onto my show Leon Frantzen-Malesani, a Dutch-Italian conductor who is currently in the process of relocating from Manchester in the UK to Oman.

Born in The Netherlands, and later moving to Italy, Germany, Belgium and the UK, Leon started his musical studies playing the violin, trombone and euphonium. He first experienced conducting at the early age of 17 and shortly after began lessons with renowned conductors Jan Cober and Federico Santi. Leon was awarded ”Jong talent van de maand” in March 2018, he won the special jury prize at the International Conducting Competition at the Deutsches Musikfest Osnabrück in 2019, the third prize at the 2021 Conducting Competition "Premio Frederick Fennell" and has recently been awarded the 2023 Mortimer Furber Prize for conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music.
