If we claim to follow Christ, should there be something recognizably different about the way we live?
In this episode of Everyday Grace, Belinda Kirk opens Colossians 3 and explores Paul's practical instructions for people whose identity has been completely changed by Jesus. Christians aren't simply people trying to behave a little better. Scripture says the old has passed away and believers have become new creations whose lives are now “hidden with Christ in God.”
That new identity, however, should produce a new way of living.
Belinda explores what it means to intentionally set our minds on things above, put sinful desires to death, and “put off” anger, malice, filthy language, sexual immorality, greed, and the other remnants of our old lives.
Using the unforgettable picture of carrying our old clothes around in a backpack, Belinda asks why Christians sometimes unzip the bag and put the dirty clothes back on.
The question isn't whether Christ has made you new. The question is whether the life you're living looks like the new person He has made you.
