It’s possible to attend church, serve faithfully, defend biblical truth, work in ministry, and do all the “right” Christian things while quietly allowing your relationship with Christ to grow cold.
That’s exactly the problem Jesus confronted in the church at Ephesus.
In this episode of Everyday Grace, Belinda Kirk walks through Revelation 2 and Christ’s message to a church that seemed remarkably healthy. The Ephesian believers worked hard. They persevered through difficulty. They rejected evil and exposed false teachers.
Yet Jesus said, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”
Their work for Christ had begun to replace their relationship with Christ.
Belinda explores Christ’s remedy through The Three R’s of Relationship: Remember, Repent, and Respond.
Remember what your relationship with Jesus was like when spending time with Him was something you desired rather than another obligation.
Repent—turn around and return to Him.
Then respond by doing the things that nurture the relationship: opening His Word, praying, worshiping, talking with Him, and intentionally spending time in His presence.
Christian activity is not a substitute for intimacy with Christ.
If you’ve become spiritually busy but relationally distant, Jesus hasn’t abandoned the relationship. He’s inviting you home.
