Welcome to the pilot of a podcast where movie criticism meets tabletop adventure. Andy — critic, long-time film obsessive, and reluctant Mortube conscript — lays out the show's premise: use dice to pick unseen films from his enormous backlog, then turn each selection into a rules-light dungeon crawl. He digs into what thoughtful criticism looks like (and why gatekeeping isn't it), pitches the format's mechanics with category lists, ranking rolls, and audience-submitted picks, and burns through a rapid catch-up on the recent and upcoming billion-dollar films he's missed. Then the episode takes a hard left into fantasy: Andy gets trapped inside Mortube, faces a surreal courtroom that assigns him a patron, and is thrown into a cursed content-creator dungeon where he fights movie-inspired enemies before ending the final battle with magic instead of steel. Loot from the dungeon becomes the film-selection device — leading, after a few rerolls, to the first pick: Amores Perros. Andy closes with a look ahead at future collaborators and the show's real mission: fun, connection, and paying attention to movies together.
