Welcome to GenX Classic Sports, the podcast where we revisit the unforgettable athletes, teams, and moments that shaped our sports memories growing up.

Before he was Gibbs on NCIS, Mark Harmon was a 19-year-old UCLA quarterback facing one of the most intimidating teams in college football history.

On September 9, 1972, No. 1 Nebraska arrived at the Los Angeles Coliseum as the defending national champion, riding a 32-game unbeaten streak and expected to roll over an unranked UCLA team that had gone just 2-7-1 the year before.

Instead, Harmon, running UCLA's wishbone offense, helped engineer a stunning 20-17 upset capped by Efren Herrera's game-winning field goal with just 22 seconds left.

Join GenX Classic Sports as we go back to the football of 1972, revisit Nebraska's legendary dynasty, Johnny Rodgers, the wishbone, the wild Coliseum atmosphere, and the incredible story of the future television star who once stood behind center and knocked off the No. 1 team in America. Before NCIS, there was Nebraska. Before Gibbs, there was the quarterback.
