Is "I don't care, do whatever you want" really the humble answer?

When a wife asks where to put the couch and her husband says "I don't care, do whatever you like," he may think he's being easygoing — but Rabbi Klapper reveals it's actually an insult. Because a woman is an "ezer kenegdo," created to help and please her husband, what she needs most is to know that he likes it. "I don't care" tells her she's failed at her very purpose. The towering example is the Chofetz Chaim, who quietly took his sukkah apart and rebuilt it — twice — simply because his new wife had an opinion about where it should go.

The secret, Rabbi Klapper teaches, is to become a student of your wife — to be curious, to pay attention, to study what matters to her. And when you give her your time, give it fully. He paints the picture of the masmid who reluctantly goes out with his wife but sulks the whole time, mind still on his learning — and completely misses the point. Real presence, not just physical attendance, is the gift she's actually asking for.

Ready to show your wife she truly matters — in the small moments and the big ones? Don't miss this one.
