Episode 7 - Right Fit... or Red Flags?

The logo looks good. The organization has a great reputation. The roster is stacked. From the outside, it might look like exactly the opportunity you've been hoping for.

But how do you know if it's actually the right fit for your catcher?

This time of year, my phone starts blowing up with parents asking some version of the same questions:

Should we stay? Should we leave? Is this a good opportunity? What would you do?

And whether you're choosing a new travel team, evaluating the one she's already on, or trying to find the right coach or catching program, there are some things that matter a whole lot more than the name across the front of the jersey.

In today's episode, I'm walking you through six things I believe every parent should be paying attention to when deciding who they're going to trust with their daughter's development... including some of the red flags you shouldn't ignore.

We're talking about:

  • The kind of communication you should expect from the people coaching your daughter
  • Whether she's actually receiving individual attention or simply getting lost in the group
  • The difference between doing drills and developing her entire game
  • Why physical skills alone aren't enough to develop a great catcher
  • When playing time starts becoming critical to her continued growth
  • Whether she has a real development plan outside of practices and lessons
  • And the one thing I believe matters more than almost anything else: how they protect her spirit and her love for the game

Because there is a massive difference between a coach who demands excellence from your daughter and an environment that slowly destroys her confidence.

At the end of the day, coaches aren't just developing athletes.

We're helping sculpt human beings.

And the right environment isn't simply the one that can put the best name across her chest.

It's the one that helps develop the person wearing it.
