Every bowl at Empty Bowls is handmade by a local potter, then donated so it can be sold for a cause. Kay McDonald talks with Mara Pernick, Executive Director of Waste Not. The Maricopa County nonprofit has spent nearly 40 years rescuing safe, surplus food and getting it to more than 65 agencies that feed people in need.
Mara covers where the food comes from, how a five-driver logistics team moves it every day, and what's planned for this year's Empty Bowls. The event is Saturday, October 17 at Mesa Arts Center, with a new VIP morning to open Waste Not's 40th anniversary year.
