Charlotte’s own Jerell Fields—better known as the @charlitgolfer —joins Matthias Farley on Just About Golf.Jerell’s relationship with the game started with his dad. After watching Tiger Woods win the 1997 Masters together, the two went out, bought golf clubs, took a handful of lessons, and started learning the game side by side. What began as something a father and son could enjoy together became a lifelong journey through competitive golf, college, business, relationships, and eventually content creation.Jerell shares what it was like discovering competitive golf, his experiences as a Black golfer coming up in the game, and how his perspective changed when he finally found other players who looked like him and could really play.He also tells the unexpected story of how the Char-Lit Golfer came to be. What started as filming a tournament so his dad could watch him play turned into thousands of views, a growing online following, and a platform that has helped bring golfers and creators around Charlotte together. From Tiger Woods and tournament golf to YouTube, family, community, and everything in between, Jerell’s story is another reminder that it’s rarely just about golf.
