This Halloween, The Nite Krew is taking you into one of the darkest cases to come out of Hamburg’s St. Pauli district.
Fritz Honka appeared to be an ordinary, quiet night watchman who spent his nights drinking at a local bar called the Golden Glove. But behind the doors of his apartment was a horrifying secret that would remain hidden for years.
In 1975, a fire in the building led firefighters to discover what no one could have imagined—human remains hidden inside Honka’s apartment and the surrounding spaces.
Four women had been murdered: Gertraud Bräuer, Anna Beuschel, Frieda Roblick, and Ruth Schult.
Honka eventually confessed to killing three women, although he later backed away from that confession during his trial. He was ultimately convicted in 1976 and sentenced to 15 years in psychiatric custody.
And here’s the part that still gives me chills…The Golden Glove is still open today.
The place where Honka spent so many nights is still standing, still serving drinks, and still carrying the history of what happened there.
🎃 Happy Halloween, Nite Krew. Stay spooky. 👻
