Preacher David Scott and Cork Snider discuss the "Markan" Sandwich, a literary technique prevalent in the book of Mark, where there are two stories interwoven together.
It starts with story A, then there is an interruption with a brief but powerful story B; finally, the narrative goes back to story A. The idea is that the interruptive story B sheds poignancy and emotion on story A and gives it additional meaning.
The application is of course that we should look for interruptive story B's in our life to engage in if called upon.
