Leadership pressure is not always created by one big decision. Sometimes it comes from making too many small ones.

In this episode of Before the Pressure, Dr. Arnold Sanchez explores decision fatigue—how constant choices can drain judgment, create unnecessary bottlenecks, and leave leaders with less clarity for the decisions that matter most.

Strong leaders learn to protect their attention, delegate lower-risk decisions, and reserve their best thinking for high-consequence choices.

In This Episode

  • Why decision volume can reduce decision quality
  • How leaders unintentionally create dependence
  • Why not every question should come back to you
  • How decision rights improve team ownership
  • Why timing and mental condition matter for important decisions
  • How to distinguish between decisions to make, delegate, or deliberate

Today’s Pressure Prep

1. Classify your decisions. Use three categories:

Decide. Delegate. Deliberate.

Which decisions can move quickly? Which belong to someone else? Which truly deserve your best thinking?

2. Return one decision. When someone brings you something they can reasonably own, ask:

What do you recommend?

Coach if needed, but resist automatically taking the decision back.

Reflection

Am I tired because leadership requires too many decisions—or because I am making decisions leadership never required me to make?

Remember:

Not every decision deserves your best energy.

And:

Being needed is not the same as being effective.

Protect your judgment. Spend it where it creates the most leverage.
