Sometimes an ordinary moment makes you stop and appreciate the community around you.
In today’s episode of The Midday Show, J.R. reflects on learning more about his children’s school Breakfast Club and why programs like school breakfast initiatives, food banks, and other community supports matter so much.
It also brings back memories of growing up in a low-income household, when something as simple as having enough milk for a bowl of cereal wasn’t always guaranteed. There can be stigma around asking for help. We sometimes convince ourselves that somebody else needs it more, or that we should struggle through on our own. But these programs exist for a reason. If you need a little help putting food on the table or making it through a difficult month, there is no shame in using the resources available to you.
Most importantly, this episode is a reminder that you matter. Keep going, keep doing your best, and don’t be ashamed to accept a helping hand when you need one. Plus, we celebrate a milestone: Episode 20 means The Midday Show has officially made it through its first full month of Monday-to-Friday episodes. Thank you for being here. I’m happy you’re here.
