In 2018, five days off from work and a last-minute decision led me to Boston for my first real solo trip.
What followed was a crash course in traveling alone: figuring out trains and subways, walking the Freedom Trail, pushing through the physical challenges of myotonic dystrophy, getting lost with a dead phone, and discovering that maybe I was capable of more than I thought.
Boston wasn’t the biggest trip I’ve ever taken, but it changed the way I looked at travel—and at myself. It gave me the confidence to keep exploring, even when nobody else was coming along for the ride.
