Welcome to the Love Sweetie Podcast! In this episode, we review three pieces of correspondence that Sweetie and her father, Chester Demaree, M.D., wrote in October 1952. Sweetie's parents finally arrive in Doylestown to visit their daughter after such a long delay, and they both describe what happens during the first couple of weeks that they spend together. The family travels to Philadelphia and to New York City, and they describe some of the sights as tourists during the 1950's.
We also discuss their visit to see the residence of Henry Chapman Mercer, Fonthill Castle, in Doylestown, and we discuss the possibilities of the Darst family's connection to Mercer.
Check out the website at www.lovesweetiepodcast.com for the family tree, overall timeline of her story, and information on the previous episodes to catch up as you are able to - there is something in Sweetie's story for everyone!
The Love Sweetie Podcast is a unique historical project that features real letters from Kathryn Francis Demaree Graham a.k.a. "Sweetie" that were written during her lifetime. These authentic letters are narrated and commented on by the hosts of the show (who give context on what is being discussed).
It should also be noted that the content and vernacular in the letters, as disclaimed at the beginning of every episode, are part of the real historic text from 1952, and do not reflect the views of anyone associated with the Podcast, including the creator and the hosts.
