In this episode, we explore the first point of contact between a citizen and the justice system: the police station. For many women, approaching the police can itself be an intimidating experience. Can every woman report a crime without fear, shame, or pressure? What does a truly gender-sensitive police station look like?

With Anil Pratham, former DGP of Gujarat Police and founder of Citizen Setu, we discuss the changing landscape of policing, women’s safety and access to justice. Drawing on his experience of over three decades in policing, we look at women help desks, women police stations, gender sensitisation and the growing participation of women in the police force. We also examine how police sensitivity can shape a woman’s trust in the justice system.

Ultimately, justice does not begin in the courtroom. It begins when a citizen feels safe enough to speak.
