Notre Dame v Navy, Game Time: Trench Stories from the Academy | GHGJ Ep. 11

It's Notre Dame v Navy week on Golden Helmets and Green Jackets, and we're paying our respects to one of the oldest rivalries in college football.

Host Michael "GOLFDOC" Maier, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon and lifelong Notre Dame fan

This week's guests are two men who lived in the trenches for the Naval Academy:

⚓ August Roitsch (#74, center). Former Navy Lieutenant, Rice grad, and energy industry veteran (Anadarko, Kinder Morgan).

⚓ Marshall Green (#64, right tackle). Played right tackle against Notre Dame in South Bend in 2005. August's teammate and close friend.

Both played on the Navy offensive line under Paul Johnson.

In this episode:

☘️ The 1927 Notre Dame–Navy game, WWII, and Admiral Nimitz: how the Navy helped keep Notre dame afloat during the war, and why the series has continued ever since

🔥 A tribute to Navy strength coach Todd Spencer and his line "I wish it was hotter"

📞 The call: "Son, how would you like to play football for Navy?"

🏈 2007: Navy 46, Notre Dame 44 in triple overtime, ending Notre Dame's 43-game streak
