We've all heard that if we only "believe" in Jesus, then our sins will be forgiven and we will be saved. We've even heard evangelists such as Franklin Graham confidently recite John 3:16 in television commercials, stressing that salvation is for "whosoever believeth" just before they lead you in a prayer to invite Jesus into your heart.
But have you ever wondered, "what exactly is belief?" Or, "is it really as simple as just recognizing who Jesus is?" Or. "if I merely agree with that fact, am I then saved?" Which brings you back to the first question - "what is belief?"
We'll endeavor to answer this and make it very simple in the process. So, there's no confusion about what the Greek says, and what is meant by "belief". And, in the process, we throw in a few more points of clarity that may help understand the larger picture.
