You know how to plan a lesson, manage a classroom, and handle a hard parent conversation. So why does the job feel heavier than it used to? This episode speaks directly to the experienced teacher who has started wondering if something is wrong with her, when the real answer may be that the job itself has quietly added more than it ever gives back in time.
We look at what has actually been added to a teacher's day over the years: more documentation, more meetings, more intervention, more communication, while the workday itself stayed exactly the same length. We talk about how experience can become its own kind of weight, turning "I could do this" into "I should do this," and why being the dependable one at school can slowly turn into being the one expected to carry everything. And we ask a different question than the one most tired teachers ask themselves: not "why can't I handle this like I used to," but "what am I being asked to carry now that I wasn't carrying before?"
Recovery here doesn't mean becoming the teacher who gave school unlimited access to her evenings again. It means naming what's actually changed, choosing one thing to look at closely, and deciding what you can release, reduce, or renegotiate. You still know how to teach. The job just may be asking more of you than it used to, and you get to decide how much of you it gets.
You are more than what you give at school. And your life deserves care too.
