The Mets are doing that special kind of losing that doesn’t even feel like a normal slump. Giovanni and Franklin try to make sense of a roster that keeps springing leaks: key guys rotating in and out, rehab timelines colliding, and the nagging sense that the team looks incomplete more than it looks unlucky. We talk honestly about what that does to expectations when so much money has been spent, and why “just wait it out” stops sounding like a plan.

Then we play the only game that feels rational when the standings get ugly: what would we do if we were suddenly running the Mets? We get into real roster experiments like letting the young guys play, finding room for better bats, and making at least one bold pitching move instead of another safe shuffle. With the MLB trade deadline looming, we kick around the kinds of deals fans love to argue about: building around a solid outfield, shopping for power, and swinging for pitching upgrades, including dream scenarios and messy-contract realities.

And because this is Sad Boys Mets Club, we pivot hard when the baseball despair peaks. We hit World Cup storylines, the Ronaldo age debate, and the surprisingly useful history lesson behind why Americans say “soccer.” The night ends with movies: a chaotic watchlist that includes Shaolin Soccer, Sir Billi, Twilight, and a spirited Steven Spielberg sidebar that turns into a critique of modern reviews and why Rotten Tomatoes percentages can fool you.
