How Music Can Change Your State of Mind*
Music has a unique power to influence our emotions, shift our mood, and even change our mental state. Whether you're feeling low, stressed, or simply unmotivated, the right song can transport you to a different mindset. This isn't just a fleeting feeling—music can affect your brain chemistry, releasing dopamine, the "feel-good" hormone, and reducing levels of cortisol, which is linked to stress.
Different genres can evoke different emotions: upbeat pop or dance music can energise you, while calming classical or lo-fi beats can help you unwind. For many, music acts as a form of emotional expression, a way to process feelings, or a means of escape.
For me, my go-to song when I need a lift is “Three little birds” by Bob Marley and the Wailers . It has an upbeat tempo and uplifting lyrics that never fail to put a smile on my face and shift my mood towards something more positive. What's your go-to track for when you need a pick-me-up?
