Diapers are a basic necessity, but for many families, keeping a baby clean and healthy can become a serious financial struggle. Gabriela Rojas, Executive Director of the Miami Diaper Bank, knows that reality personally and is now helping families throughout South Florida get the essentials they need.
Michael Nathanson sits down with Gabriela to talk about her own experience with diaper need, how the Miami Diaper Bank grew from a teenager’s community service project into a nonprofit serving families across the region, and why diapers remain an overlooked need. Gabriela shares how the organization works with community partners, stretches monetary donations further through its purchasing power, and relies on volunteers to help sort, package, and distribute supplies.
They also talk about Gabriela’s journey from Venezuela to South Florida, raising her son, her passion for food and sports, and how her mother’s experience as a young single mom helped shape the way she views service and supporting other families.
Sometimes making an impact starts with recognizing a need most of us never think about. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, sharing information, or simply helping more people understand diaper need, Gabriela reminds us that even a small act can make a meaningful difference for a family.
