You don’t have much control over what gets thrown at you in a day. Not the add-on case, not the EMR, not the call with bad news. So, what can you control? This week we’re breaking down Charles Swindoll’s famous line, “Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it,” and asking what it actually looks like to own the 90% when you’re leading a team, running a clinic, and trying to get home in one piece.

The takeaway is simple, but will make a whole lot of difference in your day-to-day: you control your thoughts and you control your responses - and if you’re managing those two things, you’re doing way better than most.

Today on Not Another Curbside:

• Why working harder doesn’t change the 10%.
• The three-second pause that buys you more than you think.

Not Another Curbside is a podcast from MindShift MD about physician performance, mindset coaching, and the mental side of practicing medicine. Hosted by Taylor Harris, MD, a practicing physician in orthopedics; Chase Yonce, MD, a practicing physician in family medicine; and Michele Demetriou, a performance coach for physicians, professional athletes, and CEOs, the show explores mental preparation, decision-making under pressure, emotional regulation, physician leadership, and confidence. Through honest conversations, real clinical experiences, and practical mindset tools, they examine how physicians can develop the mental skills that support excellence in patient care, professional relationships, and life outside medicine.
