Ludi Lin, Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat, the Black Ranger, Murk in Aquaman, joins Crystal for what was supposed to be a comedy rehearsal and turned into one of the most philosophical episodes we've recorded.

Born in Fuzhou, China, moved to Hong Kong at three, Australia at nine, and Vancouver at seventeen. Ludi was bullied in Australia for not speaking English, then bullied in Canada for speaking it like an Australian. We start with accents as a survival tool and end up digging into what happens to a person who has to become someone new in every country.

Ludi's framing on identity may be the sharpest thing said on this show: an identity is just a house you build for your ego to feel safe in. From there we get into the difference between fascination and addiction: why obsessing over a culture you already embody is a deepening, and why obsessing over one that was stripped from you is a hole you can never fill.

We also unpack the harder questions such as:

· Why financially free people in Shanghai still call themselves middle class?
