Lisa Barlow's reputation rehab on Ultimate Girls Trip collapsed the moment she offered a glam team as her excuse for keeping twelve women waiting in a hotel lobby. The goodwill she'd built over weeks evaporated in real time, and Giselle's read on her was the sharpest moment of the two-week stretch: back Lisa into a corner and she will never admit she was wrong. Heather Gay's arc ran the same direction from the opposite starting point, arriving as the crowd favorite and then leading the Salt Lake City pile-on with a lack of self-awareness that made it hard to root for anyone. Meanwhile, the Atlanta contingent reminded everyone why that franchise once was appointment television, with Cynthia Bailey walking into a costume party dressed as 50 Cent convincingly enough to confuse Luann standing right next to her. Below Deck's three-man triangle of Nathan, Joe, and newly arrived Mossy is generating more frustration than drama. Nathan putting Joe on overnight anchor watch while everyone else works days is petty management that Sandy has already clocked, and whether she calls it out is more interesting than anything in the charter storylines. On the other side of the boat, Jen has created so much of her own mess that when Luke sends flowers to Joy, it's nearly impossible to feel sorry for her. Cooper, unexpectedly, comes out of this stretch looking thoughtful: he's being kind to Jen not out of interest but because he can see she has nobody in her corner and he doesn't want to pile on. New York's reboot premiere brought Martha Stewart criticizing a store-bought pie with the full force of someone who has been to prison and come back with her standards completely intact, and the new cast addition who arrived rollerblading carries a specific Jennifer Tilly energy that the show has needed for a while. On the book side, "Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurts" by Ben Reeves, out this past July, has Death narrating in human form and lands heavy despite reading in about a week. "Dolly All the Time" by Annabelle Monaghan is a proper rom-com with a Dolly Parton thread that arrives as a genuine surprise and has moments that are actually out-loud funny. Pre-trip reading on Norway paid off unexpectedly in Wicklow, Ireland, where a local explained that "Wicklow" is actually "Viclow," a Viking settlement still carrying the name, which connected a thread running through both Ireland and Norway that no tour guide had planned for.
