Anonymous Mary, a friend who lives in Rhode Island, sent us five pages of episode-by-episode notes on Real Housewives of Rhode Island, and it reframed basically everything we thought we understood about the show. She confirmed the interconnectedness is real, not a casting gimmick, and broke down why the 50-minute Newport cast trip is completely on-brand for a state where anyone driving more than 10 minutes considers it a journey. She also explains why Ashley, the one true outsider on the cast, will never stop being an outsider, no matter how long she stays. Mary's character read of Joellen as "a fierce family girl with a healthy dose of mean girl" turned out to be the most accurate take of the season, and she walked back her early read on Alicia to give Joellen the crown by episode nine. We also get into what "slam pig" actually means regionally (more high-school trash talk than nuclear strike), what Mary's research turned up about Dr. Brian's medical practice and why the show's framing of him reads differently once you know it, and why Newport's old money crowd passed on letting the cameras in. Looking ahead to season two, Liz reportedly isn't coming back, Rula has come out post-reunion with noticeably more fire, and the cast trip cannot be 50 minutes over the bridge again. We pitch Japan, India, and anywhere else where a very Rhode Island frame of reference has no footing. Mary has a standing offer to fact-check whatever the show throws at us next season. We told her the NDA can wait, but she should send us pizza chips first.
