You can do everything “right” and still feel quietly off. That strange gap between a life that looks fine and a body that feels flat is what we’re getting honest about today, using a metaphor that makes the pattern easier to see without shame: dimmers, flickers, and the circuit breaker that trips the moment you start to come alive.
I refer to the dimmer effect (Ep.103) as the slow, cumulative way we turn ourselves down over months or years, often without noticing. Then we move to flickers (Ep.104), those small surges of energy that break through anyway: a creative idea, a new desire, a moment of clarity that refuses to fade. The twist is what happens next. Just as the “current” starts to rise, a wave of practicality arrives out of nowhere: not now, not at your age, not without a proper plan. Sometimes it’s sudden tiredness. Sometimes it’s email. Sometimes it’s just full on procrastination.
I frame that shutdown as a circuit breaker, not a personal flaw. Breakers aren’t broken; they’re protecting a system built for a smaller life than the one you’re starting to want. We end with a simple weekly practice to catch the sensible reason in the act and write it down like a symptom, so you stop mistaking the trip for the truth and start choosing what you actually believe.
If this lands, subscribe for next week, share it with a friend who feels quietly stuck, and leave a review so more quiet rebels can find us. What’s your “sensible reason” that shows up right when things get real?
