  • English Language Broadcast - Non profit organization Envera and Christmas city lights - 24/12/25

    In this week's broadcast, we will have our news summary of the week and we will also visit Envera, a non profit organization that accompanies people with disabilities along their whole lives. A great part of their work focuses on employment and Enrique Grande, general director of Envera, told us all about it. He also showed us around one of their Special Employment Center in Colmenar Viejo, in Madrid, where we had the chance to meet some of the professionals who work at Envera.

    And from the end of november until Epiphany almost every city in Spain is illuminated with Christmas lights. We will let you know about this tradition that grows every year. We will also talk about the Christmas Lottery, the tradition that marks the beginning of the holidays in Spain and, of course, we will enjoy some Spanish Christmas carols.

  • English Broadcast– International conflicts and social media risks for teenagers - 17/12/2025

    In this week's broadcast, we talk about the escalating tensions between Venezuela and the United States as the Caribbean country's skies have become yet another battlefield isolating Venezuela. To talk about this and other conflicts in the international scenario we speak with Rubén García Servert, retired Lieutenant General of the Spanish Air Force.

    We also tackle the issue of social media and its risks for teenagers, in light of the groundbreaking ban that Australia has introduced so that minors under 16 cannot access platforms like Instagram and TikTok. We discuss what we can do to protect children in this ever-changing online environment with educator Diana Al Azem, founder of 'Adolescencia Positiva'.

    This week we also pay tribute to two key figures of Spanish rock that left us recently: Robe Iniesta and Jorge Martínez, singers and leaders of the bands Extremoduro and Ilegales, with the collaboration of music journalist Sergio Ariza.

  • English Broadcast – Conversations on animation with Irene Iborra and Animario - 10/12/2025

    In this week's broadcast, we talk about the African swine fever outbreak, an issue which the Spanish pork industry is monitoring with concern. We speak with Arno Wimpffen, general director of the Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation about how administrations and farmers can face this challenge.

    We also dive into animated cinema. We introduce you to Animario, Madrid International Contemporary Animation Festival, held in Matadero Madrid from Thursday the 11th to Sunday the14th of December. In order to know more about the festival, we speak with its curator, Carolina López.

    One of the movies that will be part of Animario is 'Olivia and the invisible earthquake', an international coproduction that has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film in the European Cinema Awards that Berlin will host in January. We interviewed director Irene Iborra to talk about her film shortly after its premiere.

  • English Language Broadcast - Celebrating 250 years of writer Jane Austen - 19/11/25

    In today's broadcast, we celebrate a very special anniversary! British writer, Jane Austen, was born 250 years ago. Publishing house Alma organized an event to honour her legacy and global influence in the emblematic Palace of Santoña, here in Madrid. Director of the Jane Austen's House Museum, Lizzie Dunford, was present in the event and was kind enough to join us!

    Also in today's broadcast, we speak with translator Isabel Rivero Healy about "The Shimmers" a thriller written by Spaniard J.F. Goulding and which has been published first in English.

    And after that, we dive into "Speak un English de cine" a method to learn English by watching movies and TV-shows. Author Claire Prada joined us to tell us about this project.

  • English Language Broadcast - Norka Malberg: "We have an epidemic of loneliness" - 12/11/25

    In today's broadcast we hear from former Canadian Prime Minister, Kim Campbell. She visited our country for a meeting of El Club de Madrid, the world's largest forum of democratic former presidents and prime ministers. We speak with her about the current state of democracy.

    And speaking of democracy, this was also one of the themes discussed at the first edition of the Congreso Futuro Iberoamericano, held in Madrid. Psychologist and professor at the Yale University, Norka Malberg, participated in a panel about Artificial Intelligence and Education and was kind enough to join us!

    Also in today's broadcast, we look into the recognition of foreign degrees in Spain. A process which should take a few months, but which, sometimes, ends up taking years. Rami Ahmadi from the association Homologación Justa Ya tells us more.

    And after that, we celebrate the 85th anniversary of the arrival of the British Council in Spain with head of Arts, Cristina Ward.

  • English Language Broadcast - 'The Plough and the Stars' for the first time in Spanish - 29/10/25

    We commemorate one year since the devastating DANA that affected the East of the country, with catastrophic consequences especially in the region of Valencia. More than 200 people lost their lives. Christian Lesaec, president of the Association of DANA Victims Horta Sud, told us about the current situation in the affected areas.

    One of the conclussions of the report, "Disinformation during the 2024 DANA crisis in Spain", published in Revista Mediterránea de Comunicación, shows that disinformation and hoaxes were an obstacle to proper emergency management. In the week in which we also celebrate the "Media and Information Literacy Week", we attended the "Conference against disinformation" organized by media association, CLABE. Our colleague, Borja Díaz-Merry, from Verifica RTVE, was kind enough to join us.

    And after that, we travel to Dublin in 1915. The classic Irish play "The Plough and the Stars" has been translated to Spanish for the first time. Translator Marta Callava, told us more.

    In today's broadcast we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the European Space Agency, ESA. We visited their headquarters here in Madrid and spoke with Simonetta Cheli, director of the Earth Observation program, about their new projects and the future of the agency.

    And after that, we learn about the oldest document in Spain's National Library: Ezequiel's Papyrus is being showcased in an exhibition in the Library. Curators, Raquel Marín and Sofía Torallas-Tovar tell us more:

  • English Language Broadcats - Women Writers’ Day: María Dillon’s debut futuristic dystopia

    Women Writers' Day was established as an official celebration in Spain back in 2016. It aims to bring visibility for women in literature and we join this mission and celebration with our colleague, María Dillon.

    Maria was awarded the Young Novel Award "Leer Suma" given out by the José Manuel Lara Foundation. And the award entails the publication of her first book, "Cuello de botella". This futuristic dystopia inmmerses us in a world in which bodies are mere containers and consciences jump from one to another. A world with three main principles: order, well-being and stability. But, Alma, the protagonist soon discovers that not everything is what it seems and that the world is much bigger than she thought...
